A rapid solution that evolved into one of Work ED’s most impactful, long-term partnerships.
The partnership begins
During a time of pandemic disruptions and learning loss, FUSD partnered with Work ED to launch summer career-readiness programs fully funded through California’s ELO-P program.
Afterschool programming launches
With staffing shortages across the district, FUSD engaged Work ED to run in-person afterschool programming. The result: space for 225 students in programs including Video Game Design and Cybersecurity.
30-week afterschool extension
Building on success, FUSD extended the partnership to a 30-week afterschool program featuring 16 unique curricula. Students and parents loved the career-discovery topics and community day events.
Record-breaking summer camps
FUSD engaged Work ED to deliver three summer camps. Programs filled in days with 720 sign-ups and 200+ on waitlists. Students rated the experience 4.6/5.
A 6× capacity increase & lasting impact
From 225 students to 2,400+ capacity, the partnership achieved a 6-fold increase. Over 80% of parents signed students up again. FUSD renewed for 2023–24 afterschool programming across 30 sites.

Robotics
Have you wondered what makes a robot tick?
In this program you’ll learn to code a friendly robot, working as a team to help it solve challenges while learning about all the different ways you could work in robotics as a career.
Project
Each day presents a new challenge for students to work through as they seek to solve the problems by coding the robot correctly. Students will have the opportunity to apply simple coding to overcome basic obstacles which makes it a great place for beginner coding students.
Skills & Knowledge
Students will understand the structure and different types of code that help control the systems all throughout our society. They will also gain the fundamental skills needed to pursue coding after our program while having a starting point to build off of. Whether it’s working in groups or on their own, students will gain the knowledge required to overcome basic obstacles through robotics and code.
